How Lyngby-Taarbæk Forsyning became a more efficient, sustainable, and customer focused utility
Company overview
Lyngby Taarbæk Forsyning is a public owned company that handles water, wastewater, and waste from private citizens in the municipality and is responsible for the operation of Mølleåværket, one of Denmark's largest wastewater treatment plants, which is owned by four municipalities.
When the company took on a new CEO in April 2020, the task was to modernize the utility in every way.
Business Issues
- Lyngby Taarbæk Forsyning was far from operating according to best practices.
- The company had to mature to be able to work strategically.
- Under pressure from the supply secretariat for constant savings.
-
Not strong enough in the main strategic core areas: Efficiency, sustainability, and customer focus.
The Solution
- A fundamental initial recovery plan based on 150 action points was implemented.
- Subsequently, strategy 2.0 was initiated based on four pillars: Efficiency, Sustainability, Customer Focus, and Employee Satisfaction.
- The strategy and the related initiatives and metrics were implemented on the DecideAct platform and rolled out in the organization.
-
Once Strategy 2.0 is in place, the utility will strive to be the best in Denmark.
The Benefits
- Time is spent more efficiently as the platform creates an overview and makes reporting easy.
- Easier to familiarize new employees with their responsibilities.
- Easier to link goals, focus areas, and initiatives vertically and horizontally.
- Notable progress on business-critical initiatives.
"I have seen many ways to work with strategy, nothing is as effective as this method given what we need for where we are right now.”
